The Fed Express Halted by Spanish Bull

The Australian Open has been smooth cruising for Roger Federer, until today. Having dropped zero sets through to the semifinal, Fed looked rather invincible. But then Rafael Nadal came into the picture, just as he did about seven years ago, when he permanently shook up the game. I have been looking forward to the Fedal semifinal like many many tennis fans out there, because they make each other better.

But when I finally had a moment to check the scores this afternoon, I actually considered suing Google for hurting my mental health. I typed in Roger Federer. The most recent score was displayed at the top. And Federer was in bold. You see, this usually means that the Swiss maestro emerged victorious. So, my heart instantly grew wings and my fist pump exploded with happiness. Then, I skimmed the scores.

Wait a minute, my mind overdosed on joy screeched to a stop. That doesn’t look right. With all the tie-breaks, the 7s and 6s, I spent a good two minutes checking and double checking and triple checking. GOOGLE GOT IT WRONG!

My heart sank faster and deeper than Titanic. I felt as if I was going to suffocate. Google should cover my therapy costs. The plunge from cloud nine to misery severely damaged my mental health!

Anyway, my day since then took a turn for the better. Is it a sign that I should start supporting Rafa, because his success seems to produce happy events in my life? I wonder…If I did that, I would be as superstitious as Rafa. Until Roger retires, a day that should never occur, I don’t think I’ll switch camps. Roger is not only a super athlete but he is a Parisian prince, chic and graceful.
